Boosting construction provision and quality to build pipeline of skilled construction workers.

This is to ensure a skilled workforce is in place to meet the demand from the construction sector both locally and nationally.

By working together, we can co-create a sustainable skilled pipeline that helps improve the transition of learners into industry through better alignment with industry needs, ensuring the skills people are getting are in-demand and will lead to well-paid and sustainable work.

The starting point is to understand what this looks like across the South East region.   What are the workforce and skills demands of the construction sector?  How many learners are we training through the skills system, in what trades and professions, at what level?   Where are they going?

To build this picture, the SECTEC has undertaken two pieces of research.

Sector Market & Skills Analysis

This tells us the:

  • Shape and size of the sector
  • Demand for skills
  • Scale of large infrastructure requirements
  • Current skills provision in place and any gaps

Skills Solutions to House Building

This tells us the:

  • Key barriers for housing developers
  • Related skills and labour challenges
  • Specific skills gaps that would support the industry
