
Without the active involvement and support of construction employers in the region, the SECTEC won’t achieve its objectives and we’ll miss this opportunity to work together to affect real change in the system.

As part of our work to develop the SECTEC Partnership, we are working on the most effective and efficient ways through which employers can engage, both regionally and locally, capitalising on the scale and value of a regional approach, whilst recognising the effective local structures, forums and plans that are already in place, through work such as the Local Skills Improvement Plans, which employers may well already be a part of.

In terms of supporting employers to engage with the skills system, the SECTEC is exploring a modern Industry Group Training Model.
It is planned to initially pilot this in Kent & Medway through establishing the Kent & Medway Industry Skills Hub - a new employer‑led service designed to make technical training and apprenticeships easier for SMEs to access.
This will provide a single, trusted front door for employers especially SMEs to navigate training, apprenticeships and workforce development. Instead of dealing with multiple providers, funding routes and initiatives, businesses receive clear, practical support from one coordinated service.
